FAQ: Careers, Human Resources (HR) and Workplace Culture card decks

Careers, Human Resources (HR), and Workplace Culture Card Decks are tools designed to support career development, HR practices, and the improvement of workplace culture. Each card provides prompts, questions, or activities related to career planning, team building, employee engagement, conflict resolution, leadership development, and enhancing workplace dynamics. These decks help organizations and individuals create positive, productive work environments and facilitate professional growth.

These decks are used by HR professionals, team leaders, career coaches, managers, and individuals interested in improving workplace culture or advancing their careers. Organizations may use these decks in workshops, employee training, or team-building sessions. Career counselors and coaches also use these decks to help clients identify strengths, set career goals, or navigate career transitions. Additionally, employees may use them for personal development and workplace improvement.

You use these decks to foster positive workplace environments, support employee engagement, and guide career development. For HR and leadership, the decks provide tools to address workplace challenges, improve communication, and build a strong, cohesive team. For individuals, they offer guidance on career planning, skills development, and work-life balance. These decks also help to align team goals, resolve conflicts, and create inclusive, supportive workplace cultures that drive productivity and satisfaction.

To use the deck, you select a card based on the specific area of focus—such as team building, career development, or leadership. The card provides a prompt, exercise, or discussion topic related to improving workplace culture, fostering engagement, or exploring career opportunities. In team settings, the cards can be used in meetings or workshops to facilitate conversations about workplace values, employee well-being, or professional development. Individually, the cards can inspire reflection on career paths, performance improvement, or setting personal goals. HR professionals may use them to address employee relations or craft strategic initiatives for organizational growth.

Coaching: Introduction to the GROW Model

FIRST STEPS IN USING THE GROW MODEL TO COACH YOURSELF OR OTHERS

SINGLE DECK

Introduction to the GROW Coaching Model
Whether you are already a coach, or you may wish to develop coaching skill, or you simply wish to experience some coaching on your own; this deck is the resource for you!

The GROW Model is one of the most widely taught coaching frameworks and is used by profesisonal coaches worldwide.

Divided into four main sections, these cards help you explore any challenge, opportunity, problem in a way that loosens up your existing thinking patterns and allows your own wisdom and insight to emerge. It's like one of those really great conversations you have with a friend who doesn't tell you what you 'should' do, but you end up feeling really clear.

The four sections are:
Goal - it may sound odd, but many people who come to coaching don't know what they want; but can often identify what they don't want anymore. That's a good start, but the green Goal cards are designed to help get crystal clear on what the outcome actually is. Top tip here: quality time spent in this section is always worthwhile, don't be tempted to skimp!

Reality - this amber section is all about what is stopping them from having achieved the goal already; what gets in the way, what have they tried that didn't work etc. Top tip - sometimes, new coaches are so keen to help clients solve their problem, that they don't spend enough time in this section because they are keen to get to solutions: spoiler alert...if solutions would automatically do it, they'd have done it by now!

Options - the blue section is all about generating potential solutions, even ones that have been rulled out or that you might not have considered yet. It's useful in this section to include any ideas that might sound 'silly' or way out; you can always rule them out later.

Will & Way Forward - the final pink section is about bringing all of it together, making some choices from a place of having gone through the process and to focus on an action or a path to go forward. As they say, even a well-thought-through goal with no action will remain simply a nice dream. So this is the time to commit.

There is also an optional 'coach recap' card for each section. If you are learning coaching, these can be a great way to check-in with your client if you have asked enough questions in that section, or if there's 'more to come'.

The GROW model was never intended to be a sequential model - it is great to recognise that you need to return to a different section to refine the goal further, for example, or to generate additional options. It is a flexible set of questions to surface clarity and resourcefulness, so use it as is helpful.

Each card has a proprietary structure designed to cement your learning: a reason behind askng the question and a reminder or tip that supports it. The physical cards were designed almost 15 years ago to make it easier for new coaches to become more skilled and confident while they practice, so we know they work well. The bonus is that, the more you use the cards; the more intuitively you can remember the questions and the more natural coaching becomes.

And if you have found these cards useful, we have additional decks available to add further to your toolkit: the Intermediate and Advanced GROW decks follow on from this deck, with increasingly powerful questions as you become confident in your own coaching skills. And there are other decks available for Developing Emotional Intelligence, Building Personal Resilience, carrying out Successful Appraisals, working with Values and also Strengths.

Midlife, New Life: Cards to help you develop your life transitions roadmap for midlife and beyond including possible retirement.
This deck of 55 cards has been prepared to complement the book, Midlife New Life: Living Consciously in Midlife and Beyond, written by Eileen Caroscio, Sandy Demarest, and Paul Ward. Each card contains a reflective question from the book, along with a “Try This” call to action.

The Conscious Living wheel provides the framework for the book which has eleven chapters and the card deck which has eleven suits.

Select a card randomly, sequentially, or from a specific chapter. Reflect on the question, making notes about your reflections in the Deckible journal or in a physical or electronic journal and responding to the call to action. You can use each response to help create your roadmap from midlife to later life.

This card deck may be perfect for you, and maybe a wonderful gift for someone in Midlife and Beyond. We think of early midlife as age 35-50, midlife as 50-60, later midlife as 60-75, and later life as 75 and over.
